Doing Good in Our Neighborhood
Our missions team has come up with a safe way to help in our community during this time with monthly "drive-thru donation drops" that will have a different focus each month!
OVER 1,200 MASKS MADE FOR THE COMMUNITY SO FAR!
Here is how you can be a part of this new vital ministry:
Fabric face masks with filter pockets
Do you want to help provide masks for our congregation and community? We are mobilizing home-sewing of fabric face masks with filter pockets. There are many ways you can help!
- Do you have a sewing machine and basic sewing skills? Directions and supply kits are available
- Do you have extra supplies to donate? A contact-less drop box is available under the portico at the sanctuary (east ) entrance of the church.
- ¼” elastic (for ear straps)
- Shoelaces (for ties)
- Pipe cleaners or 16-gauge crafting wire
- Cotton quilting fabric (tightly woven – minimum size 7.5” x 15”)
- Small zip lock bags for secure storage after masks are sewn and cleaned
- Deliver finished masks to those sheltering at home and unable to travel
Contact Amy Dowell at amy@dowell.ws or 248-595-5432, if you would like to sew or are able to deliver.
Do you need a face mask?
Check back here or our Facebook Page to see when masks are ready for pickup! They will be available under the church portico or you can contact Amy if you would like to have a mask delivered.
We are offering grocery delivery for people who are at risk and cannot go out in public. These folks are staying at home to be healthy. If they need a grocery run, we are ready to help.
If you are in need of groceries or are willing to be a shopper, please email Kristin Ahrens, kahrens@dcds.edu, and let her know.
Many people in our congregation work in places that are now closed. Small businesses, restaurant personnel, gyms, trainers, hair dressers, movie theater employees, sports personnel, they are all not working right now. For the most part they are hourly employees and if they don’t work, they don’t get paid. We want to be able to help when people run out of funds for necessities. We are asking for a special offering to help fill this need when it arises in our congregation.
Go to our Give page and in special offerings fill in Emergency Relief or mail a check and put Emergency Relief in the memo line, if you would like to contribute.
Please contact melanie.npchurch@gmail.com if you need assistance.
The immediate neighborhood (at 11 mile and Middlebelt) around our church includes a Kroger grocery store where workers have been selflessly putting themselves on the line for our community providing food and essential supplies. We contacted Greg, one of the managers at this Kroger Store, and asked how we could best help the store and show our appreciation and he told us that it would mean a lot to the team at this Kroger store to have lunch provided for them as well as to let the employees know that we appreciate what they are doing. So we provided lunch on April 18 and will be again May 23rd!
Here is how you can help: Over the next few days and weeks, from the safety of your own home, make a card and or write a note of appreciation to the Kroger workers, thanking them for all they have been doing during this time. Sign the note with your name and under your name write “Nardin Park Love” so they know how much love the Nardin Park community has for them! Let’s shower our local Kroger staff with love and support and let them know they are appreciated every day in every way.

Another way you can appreciate the Kroger workers, and any grocery store or other kinds of retail businesses is by wearing a mask when you are shopping, practicing the social distancing guidelines while you are in the store and throwing your disposable gloves away when you are finished shopping. So consider loving your neighbor by practicing these things.
We also invite you to help support The Ideal Bite Community Kitchen which is catering the food to Kroger by ordering food from them. They have daily specials, delicious take and bake items, as well as their regular menu. They provide safe and secure take out as well as delivery. Sign up to receive their daily emails by contacting Peggy Wilke at Peggy@idealbitecatering.com
A big thank you to Farmhouse Coffee and Ice Cream who generously partnered with us to help thank front line workers & first responders in our community! A donor helped us purchase gift cards to Farmhouse Coffee and church volunteers are writing notes of gratitude to 274 of our police, fire, EMTs, local funeral home staffs, front line medical and grocery store workers.
Contact Lynn.npchurch@gmail.com if you would like to help in this effort.
Staying connected is more important than ever!
Small check in zone groups have been organized by Pastors Lynn and George. You should be receiving a contact from your check in zone leader. If you do not receive a contact, please email Melanie.npchurch@gmail.com
In most cases you will already know the person contacting you, but if not, this is your opportunity to meet someone new and make a new friend. Check in leaders have been instructed to tell you that they are from Nardin Park Church.
Contact Pastor Lynn at lynn.npchurch@gmail.com to see how you can help!
Five drivers are needed to help deliver food to seniors in the Pontiac area, so if you or your group have a vehicle large or small and have 2 hours on a Saturday morning, please contact Robert Davis at 248-320-7147.
